Moth Prevention: What to Do with your Stored Clothes

  • Moth on the Window - Pest Control in Sunshine Coast, QLD

When it comes to household pests that can be extremely difficult to eliminate completely, moths are certainly up there near the top of the list.

Your clothing is something that is very important for everyday living and quite an expense, so when moths get in and start damaging all of your garments, it can be a nightmare.

Here at Suncoast Termite & Pest, we specialise in pest control on the Sunshine Coast and we have a lot of tips that we like to share with our customers to help them with their pest infestations. Here are some valuable tips for what to do with your stored clothes to avoid moth infestations:
  • The best piece of advice is to make sure that you keep all of your clothing nice and clean. If you live in a very humid area or have a lot of clothing that needs to be piled on top of each other in wardrobes, then this might mean washing and drying garments that you haven't even worn yet. You can’t afford to let things get musty and become a perfect environment for moths.
  • Make sure that you vacuum in and around your closet and wardrobes on a regular basis. You won’t always be able to see moths and their debris with the naked eye, so get into the habit of regular vacuuming to try to eliminate things like eggs before they get the chance to hatch.
  • If you are putting away clothes that are not appropriate for the current season, make the effort to launder every garment before you store it for a long time. If any eggs or moths are hidden away in clothes that are going to be out of sight and out of mind for a while, you might just end up coming back to them in six months’ time and finding a bunch of holes!
